WELCOME TO
ROAD-TO-SCHOOL

Education has the power to change the course of a child’s life. At Road-to-School Foundation, we’ve seen that firsthand. When a child starts school, they don’t just learn to read or write—they unlock a future filled with possibility. Education opens doors to opportunity, breaks the cycle of poverty, and gives children the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to build a better future. Yet, for millions of children in Nigeria, the journey to education is not a straight road. Poverty, conflict, cultural barriers, gender inequality, inadequate learning facilities, and other challenges continue to stand between children and the classroom. According to UNICEF, one in three children in Nigeria is out of school, making Nigeria home to one of the largest out-of-school populations in the world. Without access to education, children face greater risks of child labour, exploitation, early marriage, and lifelong social and economic exclusion.

Road to School Foundation exists to rewrite those stories by expanding access to quality education and creating opportunities for indigent children to thrive. We work with families, schools, volunteers, local communities, and government agencies to remove barriers to learning and create pathways that help children enter or return to school, remain in school, learn effectively, and build a brighter future.

Our work is delivered through three flagship programmes, designed to meet children where they are, support their journey through education, and help them succeed.

WHY EDUCATION CAN’T WAIT

What We Do

Idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actually teachings of the great explorer of the truth.

How It Works

Who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, because occasionally circumstances occur which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure.

Every child belongs in school, but getting there is not always easy. Others attend school but struggle without the foundational skills and support they need to succeed. At Road to School Foundation, we believe that access to education must go hand in hand with the opportunity to learn. That is why we work to remove barriers that keep children out of school, strengthen foundational skills, and create supportive learning opportunities for children at risk of being left behind. Behind every statistic is a child with dreams, abilities, and a future worth investing in. We cannot afford to wait until another child falls behind or grows up without the skills to pursue their dreams. The time to act is now.

THE REALITY WE CANNOT IGNORE

18.3 million

Children of primary and junior secondary school age out of school

Millions of Nigerian children are missing the opportunity to learn in a formal school environment.
Why we care: We work to help children overcome barriers to education, access meaningful learning opportunities, and find pathways into or back into school.

74%

Children aged 7–14 lack basic reading and mathematics skills

Getting children into school is only the beginning. Children need to develop the ability to read, understand, and use what they learn.
Why we care: We support foundational literacy and numeracy to help children build the skills they need to progress in school and beyond.

60%

Of out-of-school children in Nigeria are girls

Girls face educational barriers that can limit their choices, independence, and future opportunities.
Why we care: Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, develop her abilities, and shape her future. Educational barriers should never prevent girls from reaching their potential.

62% vs. 5%

The foundational numeracy gap between the richest and poorest households

Children from wealthier households are far more likely to develop foundational numeracy skills than children from the poorest households.
Why we care: We work to expand learning opportunities for children in underserved communities, where access to educational support may be limited.
